This new report – the first in a series on the future of the minimum wage led by Learning and Work Institute and Carnegie UK Trust explores public perceptions of the minimum wage, and the views of low paid workers in particular. Even before the current coronavirus crisis and its impact on household incomes, two thirds of adults believed the minimum wage is too low and should be increased. With polling and focus groups carried out before the coronavirus outbreak, this research is intended to highlight popular support for a higher minimum wage; the human impact of low pay and economic insecurity; and support the live political debates around minimum income standards and minimum wage setting.
